Abstract:

RiceFort transforms rice husks into biodegradable, waterproof, and mold-proof fiberboards. By integrating farmers into the value chain, it turns agricultural waste into valuable resources. More affordable than many green alternatives, RiceFort offers a sustainable, non-toxic solution that is both cost-effective and accessible to the wider market.

Project Progress

RiceFort developed a rice-husk-based 3D-printable material for hotel items, met with Dorsett Hospitality International, and continues testing samples for a year-end launch. They ran workshops at three universities and have won multiple awards, including Asia Social Innovation Award runner-up.

The team refined their rice-husk-based material through extensive testing, producing improved prototypes including chairs, tables, kitchenware, a shelf, a cat scratching board, and a customized podium. The team conducted strength tests, applied for a patent, and showcased their work at CUHK Innovation Day, RTHB, PolyU IE Fair, and HKSEC, where they won multiple awards.
